Archbishop Raymond L. Burke enjoys telling the story of Juan Diego to children. And, of course, the Archbishop founded the Saint Juan Diego Guild especially for children as well. Many of Tuesday’s events were specially designed for them but all children were welcome to share in the joy of the day. After Holy Mass at 9:00 a.m., a special area of the Shrine grounds was turned into a fun playground for children, complete with rides, games and, of course, hot dogs! While the 2,000 pipe organ in the new Shrine Church remained silent, the sound of an old fashioned caliope could be heard at the Pilgrim Center! Later that afternoon, another part of the elaborate preparations for the Dedication of the Shrine Church was completed with the blessing of the liturgical vessels to be used in the Shrine Church. Archbishop Burke asked for blessings for all those who would use them in Masses now and in the future. Carrying the newly blessed Monstrance holding Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, Archbishop Burke was joined by Father Antoine Thomas of the Congregation of St. John in a Eucharistic Procession to the Pilgrim Center. A special Holy Hour for children followed, led by Father Antoine. Following the Holy Hour, Father Antoine met with children, signed copies of his DVD and later joined the Archbishop in a special dinner for members of the Juan Diego Guild and their families.
