Battle of Lepanto, 450th Anniv. – Christopher Check

August 28

On Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 2:30pm, Shrine guest speaker Christopher Check will provide an inspiring historical presentation on the Battle of Lepanto at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The talk will also include a reciting of G.K. Chesterton’s famous poem, “Lepanto.”

Taking place in the year 1571, the Battle of Lepanto is considered the most important naval contest in human history and is not well known to most Americans. October 7, the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, celebrates the victory at Lepanto, the battle that saved the Christian West from defeat at the hands of the Ottoman Turks.

Christopher Check is president of Catholic Answers, the largest lay-run apologetics and evangelization organization in the English-speaking world. Christopher served for two decades as vice president of The Rockford Institute and for seven years in the United States Marine Corps.

We encourage you to make a pilgrimage for this special occasion. Registration is not required, seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
