The Virtue of
Patriotism
Anno Domini 2026 · 1776 – 2026
As our nation approaches the 250th anniversary of its founding through the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Holy Mother Church turns first to prayer. In the months ahead, His Eminence Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke, in partnership with CatholicVote, will offer a video series titled “The Virtue of Patriotism,” reflecting on the Church’s understanding of love of country rightly ordered to love of God, fidelity to the moral law, and the pursuit of the common good.
This spiritual formation will prepare the faithful for the Zeale for America 250 Rally taking place in La Crosse, Wisconsin on June 13, 2026. During this historic event, the faithful will gather in prayer with Cardinal Burke for an entrusting of our nation to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. His Eminence will also deliver a keynote address.
In gratitude for you and your faithful support of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, we are proud to offer you, the members of Our Lady’s Messengers, early access to these spiritual reflections from Cardinal Burke. Please stay tuned for further information on America 250, the Virtue of Patriotism series, and the National Prayer Rally in La Crosse this summer.

Daily Prayer for America 250
By Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, King of Heaven and Earth,
I place today my nation, the United States of America,
into Your Heart pierced for love of us.
On the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence,
I acknowledge that true liberty is Your gift,
and that our lasting homeland is the eternal Kingdom of God.
Through the Immaculate Heart of Mary
and under the mantle of Our Lady of Guadalupe,
Patroness of the Americas,
bless our land anew,
purify her from sin,
protect the most innocent,
and guide her leaders in truth and justice.
Reign in our homes and in our nation.
Draw every heart into communion with You,
that Your truth, love, mercy, and peace may triumph
in America and throughout the world.
Amen.
“You, you who are my messenger, in you I place my absolute trust.”
— Nican Mopohua, no. 139
