Organ Recital
The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe invites you to an afternoon of sacred music with a free organ recital performed by Samuel Backman, one of the most compelling organists and composers of his generation.
Known for his virtuosity, musical intelligence, and expressive artistry, Samuel Backman brings to the organ repertoire that spans centuries, from the great masters of the sixteenth century to newly composed works of our own time. His performances are marked by a rare ability to draw out the full range of color, power, and beauty of the pipe organ, engaging listeners in music that is at once majestic, contemplative, and deeply moving.
As Director of Sacred Music at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Minneapolis, Backman leads a rich and multifaceted music program and is the founder of several acclaimed vocal ensembles. He is also the creator of Music at Holy Cross, a concert series known for its artistic excellence and breadth. His work as an organist has taken him across the United States, and his performances have been featured on Pipedreams®, the nationally syndicated radio program dedicated to the pipe organ.
During this recital, listeners will experience both masterworks of the organ tradition and lesser-known gems, along with Backman’s own skillful improvisations, showcasing the instrument’s extraordinary range of timbre and expression.
We warmly invite you to attend this special musical offering at the Shrine, to listen, reflect, and be uplifted by sacred music offered to the glory of God in a place of beauty and prayer.
