Transepts The transepts form the “arms” of the cross. Here, prominent shrines to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary are provided for the devotional life of the faithful, as well as smaller shrines honoring Saint Joseph, the Patron of the Universal Church and the primary patron of the Diocese of La Crosse, and Saint Juan Diego, who received the message from Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico in 1531.
