A Journey Worth Making
What is a Pilgrimage?
A pilgrimage is a dedicated journey to a sacred place or shrine. Pilgrimages can be large or small, near or far. It is the disposition of prayer that sets a pilgrimage apart from any other journey.
To Our Lasting Home
Pilgrimage, in fact, is a deeply spiritual expression of the meaning of life itself, which is a journey of faith from the moment of conception to the moment of death. On pilgrimage, we remember that here on earth “we have no lasting city” (Hebrews 13:14), and that our days on earth, whether they be many or few, are but a passage to the lasting home our Lord has prepared for us in heaven (John 14:1-7). The goal of pilgrimage is a deeper encounter with our Risen Lord.
Mary Our Mother
It is hard to imagine a more appropriate way to be reminded of our true goal in life—living in hope for the coming of Christ while loving and serving Him—than in a pilgrimage to a Marian shrine. Mary fully embraced the hope of God’s plan for her and her Son, even to the point of suffering along with her Son in obedience to God.
