Our Lady's Handmaids
The Formation of Our Lady’s Handmaids
The idea began when Ilfrey and Cardinal Burke discerned that the girls in the area needed a group similar to the boys’ Knights of the Altar. Our Lady’s Handmaids were created to and have since grew, meeting twice once a month during the school-year. At their induction each Handmaid is encouraged to serve Jesus and Mary by Cardinal Burke. There is no cost to sign up!
Monthly Schedule
Our Lady’s Handmaids meet on first Saturdays and third Mondays throughout the school year, taking summers off.
- Saturdays: Reflections, Rosary, Mass, and light Cleaning
- Mondays: Rosary, activities, and handcrafts
Responsibilities
- The Handmaids keep the church beautiful, with tasks like looking after the sacristy, arranging books, and bringing in flowers.
- It is expected that the young ladies learn the prayers of the Rosary and pray daily for themselves and the other Handmaidens.
Age Group
- First Communion – Eighteen
Imitating Our Blessed Mother
Included in the initiation: “Our Lady spent her life in seeking Jesus and doing his will. You must also seek him always, like the sunflower that constantly turns to face the direction of the sun, you must keep your eyes fixed on Jesus the Son of God.” – Cardinal Burk
