First Class Relic of Saint José Sánchez del Río
In January of this year, the patronage of the Shrine’s Youth Guild was transferred from Saint Juan Diego to Saint José Sánchez del Río, the 14-year-old from Mexico who, for the witness of his Catholic Faith, was imprisoned, tortured and martyred as he shouted out his final words, “¡Viva Cristo Rey! ¡Viva la Virgen de Guadalupe!”
His Eminence, Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke, has recently acquired a first class relic of Saint José Sánchez del Río, and he has consigned this relic to the Shrine. This authentic relic is ex ossibus, which means “from the bone.” The reliquary for the relic was made in Mexico.
On February 10, the feast day of Saint José Sánchez del Río, the relic will be placed upon the altar during a special Mass for the Youth Guild. At the conclusion of Mass, the priest will give a special blessing with the relic upon the congregation, invoking the young saint’s intercession for the youth of the guild.
REGISTER FOR THE YOUTH GUILD
Youth under the age of 18 are eligible for registration into the guild. Once registered, youth will receive the monthly youth journal, Full of Grace, as well as a medal of Saint José Sánchez del Río, blessed by Cardinal Burke.
