The Consecration to Our Lady of Guadalupe
Based on the tremendous response to the Nine-Month Novena and Consecration to Our Lady of Guadalupe, it has become clear that on December 12, 2024, the Shrine will be welcoming an unprecedented number of pilgrims. All the buildings on the Shrine grounds have legal maximum capacities. The Shrine asks that pilgrims be patient and respectful of the directions given by staff, volunteers, and security personnel, especially regarding movement on the grounds, seating in the Shrine Church, and any other safety concerns or protocols that may come up that day. Because of the construction on the St. Juan Diego Pilgrim House, construction fences will be erected, further increasing the concerns of having too many pilgrims in a building at once. After each Holy Mass, a certain amount of time will be given for pilgrims to pray in the Shrine Church, however, the Shrine Church will need to be totally cleared for resetting and to allow room for the next group of pilgrims to enter the Shrine Church. Announcements will be made before and after the Masses which will contain instructions for timing and safe egress out of the Church.
The main parking lot off of Justin Road will be available for pilgrims on a first-come first-served basis. The Shrine will reserve more spots than usual for pilgrims with handicapped parking stickers. The Eastern Pilgrim Center parking lot will be reserved for Shrine staff and the many volunteers assisting the Shrine that day. For safety reasons, there will be no parking allowed on Tepeyac Road (the driveway) or near the Shrine Church.
Additional offsite parking with shuttle bus rides to and from the Shrine will be available at the Aldi Grocery Store located at 4344 Mormon Coulee Road, La Crosse, WI. There will be Shrine parking attendants who will assist pilgrims in locating a parking spot and the bus stop. Shuttle buses will begin running at 6:00 a.m. and will run continuously throughout the day until 6:00 p.m. Pilgrims arriving later in the morning or in the early afternoon are encouraged to use the Aldi parking lot and the shuttle bus rides. Shuttle rides are complimentary. Please account for offsite parking in the timing of your day (extra 30-45 minutes). The majority of pilgrims will need to take the shuttle from the Aldi parking lot.
Upon arriving at the Shrine, pilgrims will move through the Pilgrim Center and walk up the Meditation Path to the Shrine Church. The walk is a half mile long and takes most people 15 minutes to complete it. Expect below-freezing temperatures and possible snow/ice. Please dress accordingly and wear proper walking shoes (or boots).
The average high temperature in La Crosse in mid-December is 30F and the average low temperature is 18F. Wear warm clothing and expect to be standing outdoors for longer periods of time.
Pilgrims with physical limitations may be dropped off at the end of the parking lot closest to the Pilgrim Center for the shortest walk possible. Cart shuttle transportation will be available throughout the day. Additional spaces will be allocated for Handicapped Parking vehicles on December 12 on a first-come first-served basis.
The Shrine kindly asks that cart rides be reserved for those who need physical assistance walking up and down the Meditation Path, especially during the busiest times of the day on December 12. To minimize the frequency of trips made for the safety of pilgrims walking on the Meditation Path, carts will go up and come down together as much as possible. Carts will pick up pilgrims in the normal location outside the back doors of the Pilgrim Center. The return line for cart rides back down the hill will run along the east side of the Shrine Church Plaza and will be clearly marked. Longer delays loading the carts with pilgrims outside the Pilgrim Center and the Shrine Church should be expected.
In the event of precipitation, our maintenance staff will work hard to keep the parking lot, Meditation Path, and Shrine grounds clear, but expect longer delays. Please check the Shrine’s website or social media accounts for the latest information in the event of severe weather.
Tickets are required for the 12:15 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Mass and Consecrations. Admission to the Church will not be guaranteed without tickets. 15 minutes after the start of Mass any open seats will be released for pilgrims in the waiting area outside the Church. Tickets are not required to make a pilgrimage to the Shrine and visit the other devotional areas on the grounds. In keeping with tradition, tickets for the 8:30 a.m. Mass are accepted but not required. Seating is limited.
Since the Shrine needed to issue tickets for the Masses, there will be a Help Desk on the Church Plaza with Shrine Staff available to assist pilgrims in various ways. If a pilgrim forgot to print tickets or is having issues bringing up tickets on a phone, Shrine Staff will be able to print tickets for the pilgrim.
The Shrine grounds will be open to the public on December 12. Tickets are required for the 12:15 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Masses and Consecrations. Admission to the Shrine Church will not be guaranteed without tickets. Pilgrims who show up without tickets will be directed to the Help Desk. These pilgrims will be issued a standby number and will be directed to the waiting area. If there are seats available or standing room, pilgrims in the waiting area will be admitted in order of arrival 15 minutes after the start of Mass. In keeping with tradition, tickets for the 8:30 a.m. Mass are accepted but not required. Seating is limited.
After the RSVP request was sent out to potential pilgrims, the response was so overwhelming that we needed to ask for firm commitments in the form of free tickets. The Shrine did its best to notify those who had filled out the RSVP form that there would be additional emails sent to claim tickets. We realize the process was potentially confusing for email recipients. If you filled out the RSVP but missed the ticket form, please come the day of and we will do our best to get you in. We ask you to come early and notify the help desk up on the Shrine Plaza. The Shrine also encourages those who do not have tickets to join the livestream and pray the Consecration prayer with Cardinal Burke.

The Act of Consecration will be made using a prayer composed by Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke. The text can also be found on the Shrine’s website through the Flores Mariae Gift Shop or available for free download in English and Spanish.
Fr. Raymond Perez, O.Praem. will celebrate the 8:30 a.m. Spanish Mass, His Eminence Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke will celebrate the 12:15 p.m. Bilingual Mass, and Fr. Zachary Edgar will celebrate the 3:00 p.m. English Mass.
