Solemnity of Our Lady of Guadalupe
The great celebration of the Solemnity of Our Lady of Guadalupe, at Our Lady’s Shrine in La Crosse, promises to be an especially joyous and well-attended day this year. In addition to the usual devotions and festivities, Cardinal Burke will be leading the Act of Consecration to Our Lady of Guadalupe, concluding the Nine-Month Novena that began this past March.
Nine Month Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe
This novena was launched as a spiritual initiative in response to the various needs of the nation, the Church, and the world. It has grown to include hundreds of thousands of participants across the country, united in prayer for their own sanctification and the salvation of the world through Our Lady’s intercession. “Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Mt 18:20). On December 12, those taking part in the novena will join Cardinal Burke in consecrating themselves to Our Lady of Guadalupe, becoming her messengers of grace like Saint Juan Diego.
Consecration on December 12
This Act of Consecration will take place during each of the day’s three Masses, after the Prayers of the Faithful. Cardinal Burke will be offering the bilingual 12:15 p.m. Mass, and will be present at the 8:30 a.m. Spanish Mass and the 3 p.m. English Mass. The Masses at 8:30 and 12:15 will be livestreamed; the many who have joined the novena in faraway parts of the country, who cannot be present in person, are encouraged to take part virtually.
Reserving Tickets
Due to the exceptionally high numbers of pilgrims expected at the Shrine on the Solemnity, tickets must be reserved to attend one of the Masses on that day. The tickets are entirely free of charge; they are simply to prevent overcrowding.
United Across the Americas
Whether in the Shrine Church or from any other place, any and all can join in consecrating themselves to Our Lady of Guadalupe. As she brought about wonders of her Son’s grace when she appeared to Saint Juan Diego, she can do the same in and through our lives, as Cardinal Burke explains:
From Our Lady of Guadalupe, we, together with Saint Juan Diego, learn that we are called to become bearers of God, heralds of Christ, in the world. As bearers of God, we, like Saint Juan Diego, are servants of the Mother of God. Through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, may we become ever more her faithful servants, so that all of our brothers and sisters may know her as the Mother of God and may experience her unconditional maternal love for them, so that, through her maternal care, they may know, love, and serve her Divine Son.
To Jesus Through Mary
Those who make the consecration to Our Lady of Guadalupe ask her to work freely in them, to present them to her Son Who is always with her. A single soul’s loving offering to Jesus through Mary—to say nothing of hundreds of thousands—may, by God’s mercy, bear a harvest of grace many times over, for oneself and for others.
