About Our Lady of the Snows
We celebrate Mary as Our Lady of the Snows on August 5. In Rome in 352, a wealthy couple wanted to give their wealth to Mary and the Church. Mary appeared to the couple and the pope and requested them to build a church in her honor. As a sign, snow covered the crest of the hill on which it was to be built. The Church they built became the Basilica of Saint Mary Major.
