Join us for two days at the Queen of the Americas Conference at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse on October 16 & 17 for a time in which we will examine Our Lady of Guadalupe’s role as Mother of the Church.
All Souls Day
On All Souls Day priests have the special privilege of offering 3 Mass intentions for the dead. This privilege was granted during the First World War by Pope Benedict XV. One Mass intention must be for All the Faithful Departed, another is to be for one deceased person at the discretion of the celebrant, and a third intention is prescribed as the intentions of the Holy Father. At the time Pope Benedict XV asked for this, it was to pray for all who had died in the Great War, and since the intentions of November 2nd must be for the deceased, many maintain this intention is to pray for all who have died in time of war.
We encourage the faithful to remember their deceased loved ones by enrolling them in the Shrine’s Divine Mercy Guild, and these intentions are remembered at the 12:15 p.m. Mass on the first Wednesday of each month. A person may be enrolled annually or perpetually.
